PDC Courses
Classes are offered at the main office of Kids Incorporated (1170 Capital Circle, NE, Tallahassee) and occasionally at other off-site locations. Courses offered on a regular basis by Kids Incorporated's Professional Development Center include:
- Florida Child Care Professional Certificate (FCCPC) – formerly known as the Child Development Associate Equivalency (CDAE) - courses are offered in three different formats: Preschool, Infant/Toddler and Faith-Based. The Florida Department of Children & Families (DCF) requires that all FCCPC candidates be a minimum of 18 years of age, have – at minimum – a high school diploma or GED, and have at least 480 hours of experience working in either center-based or family-home based early education & care programs. In addition, you must provide proof of successful completion of the 24 Hour State Mandated Course requirements, 6 Hour BOS Course, a 10 Hour Course, and First Aid & CPR courses. DCF requires all approved FCCPC programs to have 5 year renewal dates.
- The (Regular) FCCPC Course - $525 (Each of 4 sections is $125) Optional: Essentials book: $35 Register for this class. This course includes 120 contact hours designed specifically for early learning professionals who work with pre-schoolers. The contact hours are broken into four (4) 30 hour sections; each section is 8 to 10 weeks in length. Each section includes reading, projects, tests, and sections 1 and 4 include additional tasks that are assigned by the instructor and must be completed to earn certificates. At the completion of all four (4) sections, candidates must successfully complete a FCCPC Observation and provide copies of their certificates for Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 to the Professional Development Center. Upon verification and processing of the information, successful candidates will be awarded a FCCPC certificate by the Department of Children & Families.
- Infant/Toddler FCCPC Class - $525 (Each of 4 sections is $125) Optional: Essentials book: $35.Register for this class This course includes 120 contact hours designed specifically for early learning professionals who work with infants and toddlers. The contact hours are broken into four (4) 30 hour sections; each section is 8 to 10 weeks in length. Each section includes reading, projects, tests, and sections 1 and 4 include additional tasks that are assigned by the instructor and must be completed to earn certificates. At the completion of all four (4) sections, candidates must successfully complete a FCCPC Observation and provide copies of their certificates for Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 to the Professional Development Center. Upon verification and processing of the information, successful candidates will be awarded an Infant/Toddler FCCPC certificate by the Department of Children & Families.
- Faith-Based FCCPC Class - $525 (Each of 4 sections is $125) Optional: Essentials book: $35Register for this class This course includes 120 contact hours designed specifically for early learning professionals who work with preschool children in a faith-based program. The contact hours are broken into four (4) 30 hour sections; each section is 8 to 10 weeks in length. Each section includes reading, projects, tests, and sections 1 and 4 include additional tasks that are assigned by the instructor and must be completed to earn certificates.
- Content area includes:
- Planning a safe, healthy learning environment – 16 hours
- Steps to advance children’s physical and intellectual development – 17 hours
- Positive ways to support children’s social and emotional development – 16 hours
- Strategies to establish productive relationships with families – 11 hours
- Strategies to manage and effective program operation – 11 hours
- Maintaining a commitment to professionalism – 12 hours
- Observing and recording children’s behavior – 15 hours
- Principles of child growth and development – 22 hours
- Faith-based components are interwoven into each of these areas
- At the completion of all four (4) sections, candidates must successfully complete a FCCPC Observation and provide copies of their certificates for Sections 1, 2, 3 and 4 to the Professional Development Center. Upon verification and processing of the information, successful candidates will be awarded a Faith-Based CDAE certificate issues by the Department of Children & Families.
Kids Incorporated offers the following FCCPC courses:
Registration:
Pre-registration for the FCCPC class is required and must be completed two (2) business days prior to the start of the course. Registration may be done in person, by downloading the application and mailing or faxing it, or through on-line registration. Payment must be made at time of registration. If you have to cancel a class it must be done in writing 2 business days prior to the beginning date of a class to receive a one-time transfer (transfer must be for the same course).
Methods of Payment:
Payment methods include MasterCard, Visa, check, cash or money order. (Please note: trainers are not permitted to accept payment for class).
Returned Check Policy:
There is a $25.00 fee for all returned checks.
Transfers:
To request a transfer, students must notify PDC in writing within 48 hours prior to the start of the course. (Please note: if you are registered for an individual module, the 48 hour written notice applies to the start of the entire course, not a particular module. Written notification may be by fax (850.414.9810) or by email (info@kidsincorporated.org). Transfers are valid only for the FCCPC course you are registered in.
The written transfer request should state:
- the course title and dates in which you are currently registered
- the next class with the same title in which you would like a transfer to
The transfer credit may be applied to another individual to take the same class title (the person must complete a training registration form and have something in writing from the person making the request to transfer the new person to this class). The credit may only be used one time to transfer the same class title or to change the name of the person registering. The credit must be used within six (6) months of the original class registration date. Participants requesting a transfer with less than a 48 hour notice will be required to register for the desired class and pay the full cost of the class.
Class Cancellations:
There must be a minimum of 15 students registered in order to hold a FCCPC class. If this minimum number is not met Kids Incorporated has the right to cancel a class and reschedule for a later date. There is a no refund policy; therefore you will need to transfer to a class within the next available date within a 6 month period. No refunds will be offered. To transfer, please follow the transfer policy.
Refund Policy:
Kids Incorporated does not provide refunds. No transfers or refunds will be given for make-up classes, cancellations, or no shows.
PDC Entrance and Accommodations:
Kids Incorporated’s office hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (except holidays). Students taking PDC classes at the main entrance should enter from the rear of the building after hours. Parking is available and refreshment machines are available in the kitchen area of the building. Entrance during business hours must occur through the front of the building.
