Kidsfest 2010 will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at North Florida Fairgrounds from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kidsfest is a day for the entire community to celebrate childhood.   This will be the ninth year businesses and organizations gather to offer fun activities for the children of our community.  Businesses and organizations are also provided the opportunity to share information about their services.

Children can enjoy hands-on activities at the event, including bounce houses, a giant 22' water slide, pony rides, and arts and crafts activities.  Special costumed characters are sure to make appearances and show-stopping entertainment is provided for children and adults.  Refreshments are sold.  Last year's event drew a crowd of 3,500 people - a true cross-section of families from across the Big Bend - and more than 100 activities were provided by area businesses and organizations.  We expect even more folks this year as we grow this event, so join in on the fun!

Kidsfest is a family-friend event.  Kidsfest is the signature fundraising event for the programs Kids Incorporated provides families in Jefferson, Leon and Madison counties.  General admission is a donation of $2 per person, making it affordable for all families.

Sponsorship opportunities are available .  Please see the Sponsorship Brochure for more information on Title Sponsor, Theme Sponsor, and Activity Sponsor opportunities.   Kidsfest is an opportunity to reach a large, cross-section of adults and children throughout the Big Bend region through marketing efforts and event attendance.

Exhibitors are currently being sought to provide hands-on activities for children.  This is an excellent opportunity for businesses, community-based organizations, and government services to promote their products, services and other opportunities.  There is no fee to be an exhibitor...there are only three requirements:  1) you must provide a children's activity, 2) you must be providing that activity from 10 a.m. through closing at 4 p.m. - and not leave early, and 3) you can not sell anything - but you can hand out discount coupons for Kidsfest attendees, hand out brochures, information about products/services, etc.  We want our Exhibitors to be able to not only have fun and provide fun for the community's children...we want you to be able to share information about who you are and what you do and hopefully get new business, provide more services, or just help educate the thousands of attendees about your organization.  As an example, one business who participate both as a sponsor and exhibitor last year told us after they handed out coupons, "We were extremely pleased by the traffic coming into the business with the Kidsfest coupons we had handed out that day!  We have gained many new customers as a result of providing a day of fun activities for children."  It means giving up a Saturday, spending some money on supplies for the activity and reaching a sizeable audience.  We have never had fewer than 1,500 people attend the event in the eight years it has taken place and 3,500 attended last year.  In today's business climate, it's a very inexpensive way to reach a large potential customer base!  Exhibitor applications are available online and are due by March 1.

Entertainers are sought to provide a minimum of 15 minutes entertainment on stage.  Entertainment must be suitable for an audience consisting of children and adults.   Applications are available online and there is a deadline of February 15 to sign up, so don't wait too long!

Volunteers are needed to assist with the planning and set up of the event as well as helping assist with various hands-on activities, admissions, parking, volunteer, exhibitor, and entertainment registration.  Set up occurs on Friday, April 30 and continues on Saturday from 7 to 9:30 a.m.  Volunteer shifts are available for Saturday for individuals as well as groups to assist us in this family-friendly event.  It's fun and you'll get to see lots of children smiling!  To volunteer, please visit the volunteer section of this web site and complete and submit an application form.

Many of the families Kids Incorporated serves are young, single parents who are working and attending classes or are grandparents who are raising grandchildren in addition to supporting their children and whose incomes are extremely limited.  While many of the families are working towards self-sufficiency (as part of their individual work plan), they are living paycheck-to-paycheck and many months find their paychecks don't necessarily cover living expenses.  Some have family members they can turn to, but for others, there is no one who they can turn to for assistance.  During the winter holidays, this poses a particularly difficult time for these families who don't want their children to experience a holiday without any gifts.

That's where Holiday Happiness steps in.  Holiday Happiness is a project begun by Kids Incorporated almost 20 years ago.  Family Advocates at Kids Incorporated's centers identify children who would otherwise not receive gifts for the holidays and refer them, along with a wish list, outlining clothes' sizes and items the parent would like to see the child receive.  Siblings and parents are included in the wish list, although many parents decline to ask for anything for themselves, asking only for items for their child or children.  Many parents ask for clothes, books and educational items for their children.

Businesses, organizations and individuals may "adopt" these identified families, shopping for gifts and dropping them off during a two day period in December (unwrapped).  The gifts are then picked up by the parent(s), wrapped and given to the children during the time the family celebrates the winter holiday.

In December, 2009, almost 100 children were "adopted", along with their families by generous Holiday Happiness contributors.  Area businesses, organizations, and individuals went the extra mile during difficult economic times to help make the holidays brighter for some special children and their families.  Many area businesses have been participating for years and have put many smiles on children's faces over the years.

We could not carry out the Holiday Happiness Project without the support of the community, and for that, we are especially thankful!

Families for the 2010 Holiday Happiness Project will be identified in October, 2010.  Wish lists will be available by those interested in adopting a Holiday Happiness family in early November, 2010.  For more information, contact Bea Samson, Kids Incorporated's Volunteer Coordinator by email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
